If you happened to grow up in the islands like I did, you will probably agree that there has always a reason to celebrate something. The fact of the matter is that when the weekend rolled around we would be looking to have a party, “just because” it was the right thing to do!
As I remember, it was always about color and bright things. Most of the bright colors that you see around you today probably originated in the islands somewhere. So when I put together the things on my computer it is all about bright color and yes, even some brightly colored screen savers to make it stand out further.
While I do enjoy a good celebration, I tend to draw the line when it comes to commercialism and the fact that I am told when I have to celebrate a particular event. I don't understand why I should go out and put myself through all sorts of expense because society said that I should.
I consider myself as a Christian and I believe in the birth, death and resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ. What I do not believe is the fact that Jesus Christ was born on the 25th day of December, in fact I am pretty certain that we have the month entirely wrong.
What adds insult to injury is the fact that the things we seem to be associating with the holiday celebration has absolutely nothing to do with the birth of Jesus Christ. There is nothing in the bible that refers to the exchanging of gifts, unless those gifts are being given to the baby Jesus.
Every year I have to go through the same thing as I try to explain the reason why I do not celebrate the Xmas holidays, especially since nobody seems to want to wish the baby Jesus a happy birthday, instead we run up a credit card debt that takes us deeper and deeper into the abyss. If this is what Christmas is all about, I want nothing to do with it. Let's bring Christ back to the holiday please!
