People who become project managers need to be open-minded and encourage their co-workers and managers to share the same vision in projects they manage. One of the most important qualities that a project manager needs to have in order to be successful in their career is being able to communicate effectively to employees of all levels in the organization. Having a good idea or vision is not enough if it is stuck in your mind and you cannot communicate it to your fellow co-workers. Have you ever been stuck on a team in school where the project manager was boring and not motivated? We all experienced this at one point or another. To gear up team members and co-workers who are directly impacted in the project, you must be enthusiastic about the changes you’ll be making; otherwise, employees will not welcome the changes with open arms. You need to show enthusiasm and make people see the positives that are coming out of the project, not the negatives (if any). No one wants to be led by a project manager who does not know what they are doing, or how to implement a project. Project managers need to have the desire to continually learn about new techniques, machines, and tasks so they can look and be competent when they lead their co-workers in projects. The worst thing a project manager can do is to not research the project they are assigned to, since it looks bad on their selves, and the company. Project managers must be subject matter experts in a variety of subjects so they can easily lead team members through every step of the project.
